Chesterfield Borough Council appointed The Dance Movement and Wellbeing Hub Ltd as its preferred bidder to take on a 10-year lease of Hasland Village Hall following a competitive bidding process.

A local business, The Dance Movement and Wellbeing Hub Ltd, has previously hired the Hall to provide dance lessons under their brand Drapers Dance.

As part of the lease agreement the new operator will continue to make the building available for community use during the week and for the regular New Life Church services on Sunday mornings, the Hasland Summer Gala and the Hasland Christmas Carol service.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “I’m pleased that we have managed to find a new operator with strong local connections and who is committed to continuing to provide the building for community hire and events.

“Hasland Village Hall is an important community asset. By leasing the building to a competent and experienced operator we are able to ensure it remains in good repair and order and a resource that local residents and community groups can continue to rely on alongside their use of Eastwood Park.

“I wish the new operator every success and hope that local residents will continue to support them.”

Hayley Draper, of The Dance, Movement and Wellbeing Hub said: “Following an extensive process we are very excited to have been picked as the new operator for the Village Hall. As part of the selection process, we have committed to making the Hall available to the community and other groups and we look forward to welcoming them along with our existing and new customers.”

In 2024 Chesterfield Borough Council reviewed the operation of all its community assets, including the costs of running and maintaining the buildings, levels of usage and alternative delivery models. In relation to Hasland Village Hall, it was agreed to advertise the opportunity to lease the building from the council to current hirers, local community groups and the wider public through adverts placed in the local press.

The council received a number of expressions of interest. Bidders were required to submit business plans and other financial information explaining how they would operate the building and ensure Hasland Village Hall would remain available for community use and events.

Following a rigorous evaluation process The Dance Movement and Wellbeing Hub Ltd was selected as the council’s preferred bidder.
