The Grade II listed Winding Wheel Theatre is located in Chesterfield Town Centre, close to the famous landmark – the Crooked Spire. There are excellent transport links and parking close by, making the venue easily accessible.

The Winding Wheel Theatre caters for a wide range of events including theatrical performances, concerts, dances, talks, conferences, parties and weddings.

Rooms to choose from are the Auditorium, Ballroom and Function Room, which can be booked together or separately.

Auditorium & Circle
This is the largest of the Winding Wheel Theatre spaces, hosting thousands of events, from weddings and conferences to well known comedians and west end musicals . The capacity for the Auditorium is 220 for a banquet and 350 for a party with a dance floor. The Auditorium and Circle both have bars. When laid out for a theatre performance, the auditorium combines with the balcony to hold 856 guests. We have a professional lighting system and stage, as well as an audio visual, a PA system and dressing rooms.

The Auditorium measures 21.7m long x 16.5m wide.

The Ballroom
This is the Winding Wheel Theatre’s second largest space. It has stunning 1930s décor, a sprung dance floor, minstrels’ galleries and an impressive stained glass dome ceiling. The capacity for the Ballroom is 135 for a banquet and 200 for a party with a dance floor. For performances, the space can hold up to 200 guests. The Ballroom has an integrated PA system and mixing desk, a private bar, full catering facilities and access to dressing rooms.

The Ballroom measures 16.7m long x 14.8m wide.

The Function Room
With copious amounts of natural daylight, this is the Winding Wheel’s third space available for hire. Popular for parties, meetings and talks, the Function Room has a private bar with a small lounge area, dance floor and kitchen. It holds 50 for a banquet and 100 for a party with a dance floor, but when set up theatre style it holds 80.

The Function Room measures 17.45m long x 4.5m in width at the narrowest point and 6m at the widest point.

The Winding Wheel Theatre has 3 kitchens, 1 of which (below) is a large catering kitchen.

The main entrance and Auditorium are accessible from street level and a lift serves all  areas apart from the Circle. Adapted toilet facilities are accessible from all spaces and wheelchair user seats are available in the Auditorium. There is also a  large ground floor dressing room.
